‘We’ve had the time of our lives’
There were two hours’ of Takeaway favourites, featuring a whole lot of laughs - and tears! - as the live finale of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway bowed out in style across almost every inch of TV Centre on Saturday 13th April.
With the iconic Girls Aloud at the Star Guest Announcer helm throughout the live extravaganza, Andi Peters presented his final Takeaway competition in the form of a magnificent musical (watch out West-End!) and Jordan North, Josie Gibson and Scarlett Moffatt delivered some very happy, unsuspecting members of the public to the Takeaway studio via top Thames transport!
And at last... Ant & Dec got their comeuppance in Get Out Of Me Ear: The Revenge, with Simon Cowell, Davina McCall, Rylan, Oti Mabuse, Dermot O'Leary, Craig David and Alison Hammond all joining the boys in the studio as they relived the ordeal!
"It was hideous!" Dec cringed, as the celebrity Revengers basked in their glory on the studio sofa. "We were surrounded by people that didn't know and had no idea..."
"The worst bit, as stupid as it was, was when you said, 'Bring out the sippy cups!'" Ant explained. "And we had to sit there for ages drinking orange and pineapple juice out of sippy cups!"
All that after a super-sized Singalong with S-Club, Tony Hadley and Kaiser Chiefs, and the return of show favourite, Ring My Bell, in a crazy dose of doorstep carnage where EVERYONE was a winner, thanks to the hilarious head-to-head-to-head Ring My Bell: Extreme!
As we all recovered from the glorious Takeaway Getaway giveaway madness, there was no rest for the wicked, and the boys were un-suited and football-booted to end Ant vs Dec as they started it back in 2005.
The football penalty shootout featured Ben Foster in goal and Clive Tyldesley commentating, while Stephen Mulhern was joined by former Ant vs Dec hosts Kirsty Gallacher and Ashley Roberts, to witness Dec score his way to victory as Ant vs Dec Ultimate Champion.
Bursting with celebrity guests throughout, the show was one big party and magical celebration of all things Takeaway, past and present.
But it also triggered the tears, as the End of the Show Show saw our hosts with the most wrap up our Takeaway for the final time...
“Thanks to anyone who has ever been on Saturday Night Takeaway, we’ve had the time of our lives,” Ant said as the credits rolled.
“Thanks from the bottom of our hearts for watching the show that says, ‘Don’t just watch the adverts, win them!’” Dec added.
“Goodnight and goodbye!”
Thank you for everything boys, Saturday nights just won't be the same... but thankfully we'll see you back on the telly when Britain's Got Talent returns from Saturday 20th April at 7.30pm!
